Making a Difference
The donation that we received from the Ninevah Charitable Trust enabled us to construct 3 separate hut-based composting loos to use in Fairyland. Continuing our Outdoor Family Camping program during the pandemic was a challenge but we were determined to get families outddors and active when we could
One of the challenges was the requirement, between lock-downs, to implement social distancing which we did through "bubbles", each of two or three families. Every bubble needed its own tent area, its own cooking facilities and, importantly, its own loo
We built these in October 2020. They have proper "separet" loos inside that separate the liquid from the solids, making them hygienic and sustainable. They have made a real difference for the families, many of whom found the previous "long-drop" rather disconcerting!
How to Get Involved
There are many ways that you might like to get involved with our work at the Pearce Coggan Foundation. The simplest way to support us is to turn up at our pop-up coffes stall every Thursday morning and enjoy coffee, cake and good chat! You can even go away with some fresh veg or eggs and meat from Green Farm
The Wildlife Community Garden can always use more volunteers. A few hours each week can make a big difference to your wellbeing as well as to the garden. From simple watering and weeding to sowing, potting-on and harvesting, there is always work to do and our two expert gardeners will improve your knowledge and skills around chemical-free, no-dig, wildlife gardening
Although the commercial activities at Green Farm fund the day-to-day operational costs of the charity, we always have projects on the go that can reach fruition much faster with the help of external funding. While large donations towards a specific project (see below) are always welcome, we are always happy and grateful to receive small donations through our "Donate Now" button or by buying lottery tickets in the Ashford Borough Community Lottery
The lovely Vickylee Cain and her pony Thistle (seen here relaxing in Fairyland) donated half the money she raised driving her trap from Dover to Lands End. This has given us a great start towards the new greenhouse for the Community Garden
Continuing the success of our once a year Outdoor Family camping, then twice in Covid-hit 2020, this year we are extending that to 3 separate visits to Green Farm. In order to make this work without having an impact on our natural woodlands we have completed a couple of projects to improve the facilities. These are:
NEW INFRASTRUCTURE AT GREEN FARM
The building of three Eco Loo’s in Fairyland - helped by a grant from the Nineveh Charitable Trust
The extension of the community garden mini loo and shower block facilities, where we have added a "changing places" specification disabled shower and loo - part-funded by a grant from Steenbergen Stichting
NEXT INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS
We have the following projects for which we are raising funds:
Fitting out the disabled shower and loo with an adult-sized changing table & a hoist (£4,000)
A large greenhouse for the Community Garden (£28,000)
A Community Room at the Garden (£12,000)
OUTDOOR FAMILY CAMPING FOOD, TRANSPORT, STAFF
A variety of things are needed to make the camping work at Green Farm such as:
Money for food during the days at Green Farm
Mini buses hire
Social work staff
Each camping weeks requires approx £5,000 to be run successfully, jointly raised by us and Outdoor People
PART-TIME PROGRAM MANAGER
We are looking to recruit a part-time Program Manage to up our game in outreach and to develop and enhance our program of activities. (approx £20k p.a.)
"After a spell volunteering in the garden I feel revitalised from spending time in the fresh air, I make a connection with people, both Catherine and other volunteers/apprentices, not to mention learning lots about gardening, farm life and wildlife"
Our volunteers mean the world to us and we know they gain as much from the experience as they give. We offer a range of volunteering opportunities in our Community Garden and at our Family Camps so contact us for more information.
There are lots of ways to get your company involved, from donations to volunteering, charity of the year or a partnership.
Your team could take a day out of the office and have fun working on a project in the Community Garden. Green Farm can provide meeting facilities and accommodation for team meetings while you are here helping.
You might be able to help with fundraising via Payroll Giving, events or by donating gifts in kind.
